The Only Certainty is Government Taxation

28th Oct 2008

Taxes are a way of life. It is unfortunate, but it is the price we pay for living in a society. Nor is it fair that some people pay more taxes based on their locality. In the past year, governments have started taxing VoIP companies more aggressively as VoIP grows in popularity. These taxes can get very confusing, especially when they come from the Federal government, individual State governments, and even local governments.

If you haven't checked out the VTWiki yet, take a look. There is plenty of information there. You can share your own experiences with troubleshooting and help other ViaTalk customers with their service. The latest update is a comprehensive list of taxes that you may encounter through using VoIP. Each tax listed has a description of the general purpose of the individual tax. Most of these taxes are charged based on the location where you use your phone service. If you have a question why you are being charged a "Municipal Right of Way Tax," please contact your local Assessor's office and ask what it is being collected for.

Here's the link: http://www.vtwiki.org/wiki/index.php/Taxes.

Cheers,
Craig
